Workshop

Inaivu (இணைவு) in Tamil
means connection, inclusion
and coming together.

At Inaivu, we believe diversity, equity and inclusion is not a compliance exercise. It is the foundation that makes all other work across a local government possible.

When done with intention, it strengthens teams, reduces conflict, deepens trust, and allows organisations to serve their communities with clarity and confidence.

We come from refugee backgrounds and began our working lives in local government, navigating institutions that were not designed with our lived experiences in mind. Over a combined 35 years, we have worked across councils, community organisations, businesses and academic institutions. This journey has shaped a clear belief that underpins our work: when systems recognise people, communities and organisations thrive together.

Whether your work centres on people, policy, learning, service delivery or leadership, our experience shows that inclusion is not extra work. Done with care and intention, it creates the conditions for clarity, effectiveness and shared responsibility.

What Drives Us?

Building Together

We work with communities, not for them. Change endures when it is created together, shaped by lived experience and shared responsibility.

Recognition First

Exclusion is rarely about a lack of talent. It is about not being seen. We honour the skills, knowledge and leadership that people already bring.

Everyday Cultural Safety

Belonging should not be earned. It should be part of how an organisation moves. We help embed cultural safety into the daily systems, decisions, and interactions.

Trust in People

We believe in organisations and the people within them. Systems can change when the people shaping them are supported to lead with care, and courage.

How Do We Do This Work?

We hold close the words of Murri artist Lilla Watson:

“If you have come to help me, you are wasting your time. But if you have come because your liberation is tied up with mine, then let us work together.”

This captures how we approach our work. We do not work for communities. We work alongside them, because our futures are shared. When staff feel safe, respected and supported, communities feel it too. When communities are trusted and included, organisations become stronger places to work.
